Whales and Dolphins
There are at least 16 identified species (dolphins and whales) in our sea (Source: INDP). In Murdeira bay there are records of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) for breeding and mating. The main season is from February to May.
Although we can find whales and dolphins around Sal, Boavista is better know for those species.

A large number of dolphins beached themselves on Boavista in 2007, it was reported that tests carried out by a visiting submarine could have caused the dolphins to become confused. Most of them died.
